How-to create a sunny interior.

This week has started on a gloomy note in Melbourne... A little cooler after the warm weekend, heavy rain and grey, stormy skies. Not the start to the week I was searching for... so let's change it?

I've put together some ideas, including some bright and cheery interiors below, to inspire and create our own "sunny" interiors at home and turn this dreary weather upside down!

Above images in slideshow: one, two and five | three | four.

1 // Use Yellow.

This has to be the happiest colour I know! If you ever need to brighten up your space with colour - yellow is your man! Whatever shade of yellow attracts you and your home is the one to work with. For me, I'm loving lemon yellow at the moment. Not too rich in tone and keeping in-line with the current trendy pastel theme. Here's a few coveted pieces from a favourite, Country Road.

2 // Add a little sparkle.

As the days get longer we are blessed with more light (although today I am struggling to find it!). So we better maximise this right? Here are a few pieces you can introduce into your space to capture, reflect and shine the light throughout.

3 // Change your quilt cover and bed linen.

Such a simple idea but I find that moving away from what I consider to be my "winter" (and warmer) quilt cover and bed linen sets (including my heavy duck feather insert!), freshens up my bedroom and opens up the space. For some of us, a beautiful white bedspread is all we need. But if colour is your thing, be bold with pattern or be subtle with pastels. The choice is yours.

4 // Introduce fresh flowers.

Greenery will make any space feel fresh and alive. Whether you're into indoor trees or potted plants, whether you love the pop of colour from a bunch of flowers or the sweet aromatic scent from a collection of herbs, a touch of the outdoors will cheer up any interior style.

This week I've rediscovered my metallic gold Uashmama bag and found a few cute green potted plants to dot around my home, including a miniature christmas tree!

Please share with us any plans you have brighten up your home this week.
