Living the rural dream.

This month's book club review of Country Living's Modern Rustic magazine had me dreaming of Italian villas all week.

Natural materials of stone, timber and linen form the foundations and interior spaces of these beautiful spaces located in Umbria and Tuscany. Neutral colour palette, rich textures and pared-back interiors are all signature details of the modern rustic home. A natural, earthy palette with touches of black, white and ochre is a good foundation to begin with.

The modern rustic home is all about decorating over time... it's the journey of collecting pieces for the home, whether they are family heirlooms, items discovered on a weekend getaway or sourced from a local flea market (or better yet, while travelling!). Tactile, handmade pieces are best collected with patience. For a well curated look, mix provincial pieces and modern luxuries to achieve the right balance for your home.

Now for the good news... All these charming villas are available for rent! Browse through the beautiful selection of Italian retreats at Special Umbria to discover your next dream vacation.
