With Mother's Day approaching, we are all faced with finding the right gift for Mum and the best way to say thanks. As I've gotten older, my sister and I have found ourselves move away from the notion of buying a gift. Not that we don't appreciate Mum, it's just that, after a while, a gift becomes impersonal to us, whether or not its something we know she would love.
To celebrate Mother's Day, we love the idea of organising a catch up and doing an activity together. Over the past couple of years, we have indulged in High Tea. Sometimes this has taken place in a beautiful hotel, like the Windsor Hotel and other times, a simple gathering at home.
So for today's post, I wanted to share with you some of our ideas to help you set up your own High Tea for Mother's Day.
1. The Dining Landscape. We are all familiar with the traditional High Tea arrangement, so how can we inject our own style (or perhaps Mum's style) into our design? Consider, colour, location, time and food choices.
2. Don't forget the flowers. A beautiful arrangement scattered across the table will elevate any simple dining setting into something special. For a little wow factor, mix up your vessels like glasses, jugs, vases, jam jars, cookie jars etc.. or choose various blooms in one shade of colour.
4. Bake at home. Keep the food personal and make dishes that are signature to your family! Perhaps you can bake a recipe Mum taught you when you were younger, or adapt a family classic. If you are looking for some inspiration, have a browse through recipes from Joy The Baker.
5. Finally, sit back, relax & have a laugh with Mum. That's what this day is all about.
We hope you have a beautiful Mother's Day this weekend and a special shout out to my Mum - sorry I can't be there this year but I hope you have a great day with the family.
